Movin’ On Up….

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Signs point to a rise in new construction and the housing market overall, according to the Washington Post.

“A wide range of housing indicators — construction, home sales, prices — have stabilized in the past few months, although they remain at historically very low levels. And it looks as if construction activity in particular will pick up in 2012.”

New construction starts, in particular, showed a 9.3% increase in November 2011, the highest it’s been in 19 months. Issued building permits also increased by 5.7%.

Thank You Happy Homeowners!

Monday, October 17th, 2011

We absolutely love seeing the happiness in the homeowners when they finally walk through and settle on their new homes. We love even more when we receive kind emails, like the one below from Kyle and Sam Pennini:

“I wanted to send you this message about our experience with your company over the past few months. Instead of just telling you that our entire home building experience from beginning to end was a complete pleasure, I want to tell you exactly why so I hope you have a few moments to spare…

- Bobbi was extremely helpful from day one. She was able to provide us first hand knowledge of the neighborhood being that she lives and works in College Station. Although we may have bombarded her with questions at times, she was very responsive and happy to help every single time. She was very knowledgeable about all of the processes and details we would face while building a home with your company and helped us make some important decisions.

- Shannon is very detail oriented and excellent at what she does for your company. She clearly had plenty of experience in home design to make recommendations on things Sam and I never would have considered. We were very pleased that Shannon did not push us to choose options we werent interested in and provided honest feedback on things that we may or may not want to include in our budget. I know that I personally threw a few wrenches into Shannon’s duties by requesting last minute changes to our kitchen layout and the stone on the front of our house, but she promptly made the changes we requested without any issues. Shannon helped us to take the standard Garfield model and really make it our own unique home.

- Jim Trotter was fantastic to work with as well. He clearly uses his years of experience to his advantage and knows how to keep the customer properly updated and informed throughout the building process. Jim obviously wanted to make sure we were happy with every aspect of the home. We were unhappy with the initial grading of our lot and Jim haulted construction upon our request in order to meet with us and explain exactly how the lot was going to turn out at the end of construction. Jim is a man of his word and we are now very pleased with our lot, just as he promised. We were impressed with how clean that homesite was kept during construction and loved that we were able to have access to our home throughout the entire process in order to see what was happening. Most impressive – Jim met all of the dates he promised to us and delivered our complete home right on schedule.

Every other employee that we ever emailed or briefly dealt with also provided excellent service. All of the subcontractors including Vintage Security, TMS, DesignTech, etc were very easy to work with and did a great job. Bruce Rider and George Mason mortgage were perfect and we were very happy with their service.

We have heard the horror stories about other builders and new construction always taking way too long past the promised due date, shabby work, and poor communication. We did not experience any of those problems with your company and would like to sincerely thank you for paying such close attention to the customers wants and needs.

We are VERY proud of our first home and will recommend your company to friends, family, and co-workers any chance that arises.”

Kyle and Sam, congratulations again on your new home and we wish you both nothing but the best!

World Gym Comes to Kaine Homes!

Monday, January 31st, 2011

For our January personal enrichment class, we had the unique opportunity to get one-on-one training from James, a personal trainer affiliated with World Gym. James gave a fantastic presentation on personal fitness, specifically the importance of understanding your body when developing a workout routine. Here are a couple of tips:

1. Posture is extremely important when developing a fitness routine. Poor posture can lead to back concerns when added to exercise.

2. Body chemistry plays an extremely important role in your body’s metabolism and fat-burning abilities. Genetics and blood type, for example, should be discussed with your personal trainer.

Thank you again, James, for such an informational class!

Back to School

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

As the summer days continue, one thing is for sure: It’s time to head back to school. And students in our College Station community not only have the new Barstow Elementary school less than a mile away, our middle school students get to take advantage of the brand new Calvert Middle School.

The new Calvert Middle School is on Chesapeake Boulevard in Prince Frederick, which is located behind the Fox Run Shopping Center. Teachers began moving into the school just last month but the doors will be open for the 2010-2011 school year. The school features special art classrooms, a large gym and will house staff and up to 650 students.

While it’s not completed yet, high school students will also have a completely renovated Calvert High School in the near future.

Good luck to everyone heading back to school and to the staff and students who live in our College Station Community!

Tips to Keep your Yard Cool in Hot Weather

We may be more than half way through Summer but we still have plenty of hot days ahead of us.  Below you will find a few very important tips to help keep your yard healthy and happy on a warm day:

  1. Do not over-water your lawn!   Grass reaches deep with its roots for moisture, so water about once a week.  Water heavily, about an inch or two, for best results.
  2. Do not cut your grass short!  By giving your lawn an extra inch or so in length, your allowing the blades to shade your roots from the sun.  Healthy roots grow longer and stronger.
  3. Do fertilize your grass every 2 months or so.  Healthy, fed grass produces thick, even blades that cool down the soil and maintain your grass even in hot weather.
  4. Last but not least, the best time to water your lawn is early morning.  You have the best chance of avoiding evaporation at this time of day.

Combining the above tips will leave you with a healthy yard for the remainder of Summer and the hot beginning days of Fall!
