Do YOU like steamed crabs?

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Last week, our company ventured to Baltimore for our annual Kaine Day Out. In the spirit of summertime, Brooke treated everyone to steamed crabs at Obrycki’s!

Obrycki’s has been in business for over 50 years and is THE seafood and crab house in Fells Point, Baltimore. There menu ranges from delicious fried oysters to dozens of steamed crabs with Obrycki’s special seasoning.

Our lunch conversation lead to one very important question if you live in Maryland: Can you and do you like to pick crabs? (Don’t miss out on this blog post in the future!)

Make your reservation to pick crabs at Obrycki’s asap, they are closing their doors for good this November. To decide what you should have before you get there, read some of their Yelp reviews!

Thanks Brooke for such a great day!

If you guessed Calvert Shoppe for Hospice, you are correct!
Where's Brooke Shoppe for Hospice

Shoppe for Hospice is located in the Kaine Industrial Park on Old Town Road in Huntingtown. The women’s clothing store offers gently used clothing, in all sizes, at very reasonable prices. Visit the shoppe Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The best things are not the prices; the facility is 100% run by volunteers and all proceeds benefit Calvert Hospice.

If you’re interested in cleaning out your closet and donating to a very worthy cause, please visit the shoppe with your gently used items Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Real Estate Report, Calvert County

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Interested in the market trends for the past four months? Here are a couple of points worth reading:

•Sales prices were the highest this March since January of 2010! From January 2011 to March 2011, there was a $25,000.00 increase.
•December saw a nice jump in homes sales, breaking 80, but January and February brought us right back to the 60’s and below where we were Fall 2010. We saw another jump for March, probably due to better weather!
•We didn’t have anything exciting to report on the number of days a house sits on the market but what a change in February! A house sold almost 50 days faster! While that number crept back up in March, homes that sat for long periods of time are also finally selling.

Sales and Marketing Council Seminar

Monday, April 4th, 2011

On Wednesday, March 23, the sales staff from Kaine Homes attended the SMC Sales Camp seminar in Timonium, Maryland. The seminar was conducted by Janine Driver, President of the Body Language Institute in Washington, D.C. and author of the New York Times best-selling book, You Say More Than You Think.

Watch this video of Janine in action and learn some of the interesting tips we did!

We also had the opportunity to visit with some colleagues and walk through BuilderMart and browse the various vendors in attendance-An educational and very fun day!

Calvert County Public Schools Introduces Smartboards

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Calvert County Public Schools has implemented a new technology in the area-An interactive Smartboard in the classroom.

The Smartboard has many exciting functions. The board has the ability to convert handwriting into typed writing that can be increased or decreased in size and add a photo to the script complete with sound. Most importantly, the Smartboard is fully interactive. Lessons that have been developed specifically to be used on the Smartboard can convert math functions and encourage the student to not only learn the material but be involved in the teaching process.

Congratulations to Calvert County schools for such a significant step in bettering a student’s learning opportunity.
