Please join us Saturday, October 30 from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. for pumpkin decorating at our model in College Station!

We will also be open Halloween night for trick-or-treating from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. See you then!
Our End Hunger event was held this past Saturday at our model in College Station. We were accepting donations to contribute to the county-wide campaign to “End hunger in Calvert County.”
A HUGE thank you goes to Wendy Hartung, a soon-to-be resident of College Station, who donated over 230 pounds of food for this amazing cause. Ms. Wendy also won our contest for the heaviest donation, the prize being a $25.00 gift card at Giant Food, and she also donated that as well.
Thank you to everyone who participated on Saturday! We will be collecting here at our model until Saturday, October 30, so please feel free to stop by and donate. For more information, please visit www.endhungercalvert.org
Each month, Kaine Homes has a monthly luncheon for the employees. This is an opportunity to visit with one another, since we are at two different locations, as well as discuss the business.
Brooke, the owner of Kaine Homes, has decided to add a “Personal Enrichment” class to each luncheon so the employees can have a nice balance of work and fun. This month, we were taught one hour of self defense by Kyle from the Blackbelt Academy in Prince Frederick.
A couple of points we learned…
1. Always walk with your head up, face forward. You want to present yourself not only as confident, but aware of your surroundings. An attacker will typically target someone who’s head is down and unfocused.
2. Be aware of your surroundings! Take in your location and the people around you. If someone is making you uncomfortable, go with your instincts.
Thank you Shannon, our Design Manager, for planning this class and thank you Kyle for teaching us!

Approximately 10,000 Calvert County residents are utilizing local food pantries this year..

A special thank you to Shannon, our Design Manager, for heading our involvement with End Hunger.
Kaine Homes employees have already jump started this program! We hope to see you this Saturday!

Recently, Kaine Homes teamed up with Marrick Homes to host an Open House for realtors in our College Station community in Prince Frederick. Local realtors had the opportunity to visit and have lunch with Marrick and dessert with us while visiting our “Ready Now” home!
We had a great turnout and appreciate all the realtors who were able to spend their day with us!
September Finds…
• The total number of sold homes has decreased since summertime. This may be due to the ‘back to school’ season.
• Homes are on the market for roughly 144 days before selling, which isn’t too long for the seller considering it’s currently a “buyers market.”
• There is an average $16,000.00 difference in the list price of homes versus the final sales price of a sold home. Sellers and buyers, finding a happy medium is key in your home sales transaction!

Calvert County Public Schools has implemented a new technology in the area-An interactive Smartboard in the classroom.
The Smartboard has many exciting functions. The board has the ability to convert handwriting into typed writing that can be increased or decreased in size and add a photo to the script complete with sound. Most importantly, the Smartboard is fully interactive. Lessons that have been developed specifically to be used on the Smartboard can convert math functions and encourage the student to not only learn the material but be involved in the teaching process.
Congratulations to Calvert County schools for such a significant step in bettering a student’s learning opportunity.
On Wednesday, September 29, Brooke, Melissa and I had the pleasure of attending the SMC Sales Camp in Pikesville, Maryland.
We had the opportunity to hear Peter Franchot, the Comptroller of Maryland, speak on the economy of the state as well as his opinions and ideas for the housing industry.
We also listened to Jeff Shore, an expert in new homes sales training. Jeff stressed the importance of a positive, confident attitude and the enthusiasm necessary to establish a comfortable relationship with a potential home buyer. After listening to Jeff speak I believe all three of us left the seminar encouraged, inspired and motivated! I look forwarding to reading more of Jeff’s work as well as his newsletter that is available on his website.
Finally, it would be a disgrace if I didn’t mention our unbelievable lunch at one of the best deli’s in Maryland, Edmart.
Thank you Brooke for such a great learning experience and day!
