The employees of Kaine Homes participated in the United Way Day of Caring September 10, 2008. The Day of Caring is an annual United Way special event that brings together employees from local businesses to volunteer at United Way of Calvert County agencies. Kaine was able to volunteer at Fishing Creek Kennel in Sunderland. According to the Calvert Recorder on September 12, 2008 By ERICA MITRANO:
“Humans weren’t the only ones to benefit from the outpouring of philanthropy — man’s best friend got help as well. Volunteers from Kaine Homes completed a host of projects at Fishing Creek Kennel in Sunderland, a home for abandoned and stray animals run by the Calvert County Humane Society.
The volunteers helped repair storage sheds, fill holes, haul trash away, restained a deck, clean and repair dog runs, reinforce a fence and erect light poles, among other projects, according to Bob Bradshaw, who coordinates Day of Caring for the Humane Society.
Bradshaw, 66, said the volunteers were especially valuable because they have construction skills.
‘‘This has been by far the largest group ever to come from any company,” Bradshaw said. ‘‘Not only did they come through with a lot of people, these are very skilled people doing work like this. [They are] self-directed, very nice and all working very hard. We couldn’t be more pleased,” he said.
Anne Kaine, 56, the wife of the company’s owner, said it was the first time her company had joined in the Day of Caring. ‘‘We’ve done a lot of things in the community. This is one thing we haven’t participated in,” she said. ‘‘… I didn’t realize how much need there was for the humane society. It’s very rewarding to be able to give back to the community.”
